The German and French national triathlon teams fought a thrilling duel for the world championship in front of a full crowd of spectators. In the end it was enough for the silver medal, but hardly anyone expected that.
"With a strong team performance, we surprisingly left some supposedly stronger teams behind and scored a lot of important points for the Olympic qualification. To win a medal at a World Championship in front of the German fans was unbelievable," said Wernz after the race.
But Wernz doesn't have much time to cheer. The newly crowned Vice World Champion will spend the next 3 weeks at the training camp in St. Moritz (CH), where he will prepare for the German Championship on 3-4 August 2019 in Berlin and for the subsequent Olympic test run in Tokyo.
"We are very proud of Valentin and wish him every success for the upcoming German championship in Berlin," congratulated Klaus-Günter Eberle, Managing Director of Andreas Hettich after the competition.
